Don’t Let Your Breath Speak Louder Than Your Words!

There is a saying that says “You never overdress without a smile” however if our breath smells bad, the speech and the smile that we make might not be as attractive as they would with a fresh breath. “Halitosis” or “Bad Breath” is that common medical condition when your breath smells bad. Besides that, most of the time it will directly and indirectly affect the psychosocial life of the person. Nobody from us would like to interact and communicate with someone that their breath smells bad and you can’t imagine the discomfort their partner is having!

So, what are the causes of bad breath and how can we get rid of it?

According to researchers about 80% of halitosis is related to the dental and poor oral hygiene. Which may be due to cavitated teeth that lead to food accumulation, semi-erupted wisdom teeth, gum diseases and dry mouth. The other 20% can be internal or external causes. External causes are some foods, smoking and alcoholic drinks. And internal causes are like diabetic, kidney diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease and liver disease.     Management of halitosis is simply by removing the underlying caustic factor. The most important thing is starting from the simple steps which include taking proper oral hygiene regime by brushing your teeth, gum, and tongue at least twice daily.

And there are special mouthwashes that can be used to get fresh breath as well. Visiting your dentist for checkups every 6-12 months need to be highlighted as we mentioned most of the time the bad breath is due to dental causes. When the dental causes are eliminated and the bad odor still persists, at that time further investigations need to be carried out by physicians.

And know that, besides bad breath is very discomfort-able for the opposite side to deal with, it is very difficult for them to tell and warn the person as well. So, every time when you go out for a meeting, work or a date check the smell of your clothes and double check the smell of your breath.
